There was a fantastic turnout for the illuminated parade which marked the end of the North
Shields 800 celebrations.
It has been an honour to chair the committee planning the celebrations and the closing parade
is a good time to reflect on what this year has meant for our town.
Eight centuries of history is no small achievement and together we’ve honoured that legacy
in what we hope has been a creative and inclusive way – importantly – driven by the local
community. From exhibitions and performances to walking mural trails and community art,
these events have shown the strength, diversity, and spirit that make North Shields so special.
I want to thank everyone who played a part—our local groups, volunteers, businesses, and of
course, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and generous donors who made these projects
possible. These efforts have not only celebrated our past but have helped shape a bright
future for North Shields.
This anniversary was more than a milestone; it was a reminder of what we can achieve when
we come together as a community. Let’s carry that energy forward into the years ahead.
