Thank you to the The Bay Foodbank for taking the time to show me around. I want to pay tribute to the charities and volunteers who operate food banks to help those struggling to get by.
I am a great supporter of food banks. Our local foodbank does an incredible job, and tragically are busier than ever as more and more people are reliant on emergency food aid.
The fact is that in 2010, food banks were not part of the fabric of our communities as they are today, because there was not the same scale of demand from hungry people and their families. I want food banks to become increasingly unnecessary as we reduce poverty and hunger through economic growth, good jobs, free school meals, breakfast clubs, and a fairer society.
