The economy is growing and wages are rising faster than prices but many people are still feeling the cost-of-living pinch. Families think twice about what goes into their shopping basket and treats or days out often feel out of reach.
That’s why I welcome the Chancellors recent announcements on tackling the cost of living including by cutting taxes on family activities this summer.
Local restaurants, cinemas and soft play areas are among those set to help parents save on the cost of a day out with the kids during the holidays.
Getting there by bus will also get cheaper. Kids between 5-15 years’ old will travel for free – making a day out even more affordable. The cost reductions are coming thanks to the government’s ‘Great British Summer Savings’ scheme – which I’m really proud to see being delivered. It also means we can get people through the door to support great local businesses.
This is on top of what the Government is already doing to help households with costs – including cutting energy bills by £117, freezing rail fares and prescription charges, and extending the fuel duty freeze. And, for families with kids, rolling out 30 hours of funded childcare, free breakfast clubs, and extending free school meals.
