Alan Campbell MP says modernization of animal welfare legislation is long overdue.
The 1911 Protection of Animals Act is the basis for animal welfare protection. Organisations like the RSPCA say the law is too reactive and often action cannot be taken until after an animal has suffered.
The Government is committed to overhauling the 1911 Act and Tynemouth MP Alan Campbell says a new law should be introduced in the Queen’s Speech 2004.
Alan Campbell says, "I welcome the Government’s commitment to overhaul the 1911 Protection of Animals Act. I strongly support moves, across the political parties, to make 2004 a target date for the new law."
