Local MP Alan Campbell has attended an event to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of John Wesley as part of the Age Takes Centre Stage celebrations. The celebration including music and readings was held at the Baptist Chapel in Howard Street North Shields. It comes towards the end of month long Age Takes Centre Stage celebrations organised by North Tyneside Council.
Music was provided by North Shields Salvation Army band and included works by John Wesley and his brother Charles.
Alan Campbell said, "I am delighted to have been asked to join local people at this important event. Age Takes Centre stage has been an important celebration in North Tyneside for a number of years now. This event, superbly organised by Gillian Ford, celebrates the enormous contribution to history by John and Charles Wesley and brings together a number of local churches. It is perhaps particularly appropriate that Tynemouth’s Labour MP should be here since it is said that the Labour Party owes more to Methodism than it does to Marxism".
