Local MP Alan Campbell has attended the traditional service marking RAFA Battle of Britain Day.

Alan Campbell laid a wreath at the service at Whitley Bay Cenotaph and afterwards joined veterans and their families at the Catholic Club at Whitley Bay.

Alan Campbell told the local RAFA branch members that he was honoured to join them to commemorate those airmen and aircrew who had lost their lives.

Alan Campbell said, "Airmen and aircrew in the Battle of Britain gave their lives to defend democracy and human rights. We were fortunate to have them and fortunate that present day servicemen and women are prepared to take action in similar causes."
